Northern Kyushu Automobile Industry Asia Advanced Base Promotion Forum Held
On Apr. 26, the Northern Kyushu Automobile Industry Asia Advanced Base Promotion Forum was held in Kitakyushu. The Northern Kyushu Automobile Industry Asia Advanced Base Promotion Project is a public-private initiative led by Fukuoka Prefecture. At this forum, automobile manufacturers gather to give progress reports and special presentations on advanced technologies. Approximately 700 people attended the event.

Fukuoka Prefecture Tops in Kyushu for Number and Area of Factory Sites in Fiscal 2016
According to the Survey of Factory Location Trends released by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Fukuoka Prefecture ranked 14th in Japan with 27 factories and 27th in Japan with 13.6 ha of area dedicated to factories. These figures were enough to put Fukuoka ahead of every other prefecture in Kyushu. Broken number region, there were nine factories in Kitakyushu, nine factories in Fukuoka, seven factories in Chikugo, and two factories in Chikuho. The best represented sector was food processing, followed by general-purpose machinery manufacturing and electrical machinery and equipment manufacturing.

Braveridge to Expand Wireless Module Production
Fukuoka based manufacturer Braveridge will open a new plant in Itoshima to expand production of its LoRaWAN-compatible wireless modules. There, the company plans to mass produce equipment and modules for monitoring terminals and anti-theft tags. Part of the R&D functions currently conducted at the company's headquarters will also be moved to the new plant, along with some manufacturing capabilities from its existing plants. The new plant will be built inside Itoshima Research Park, an industrial park sponsored by Fukuoka Prefecture, and Braveridge will be the first company from the private sector to set up shop in the park. When construction began, the Prefecture designated Braveridge as a Green Asia International Strategic Comprehensive Special Zone company. The new plant is scheduled to go into operation this November.

Fukuoka Prefecture Revises, Distributes Disaster Prevention Handbook for Foreigners
An increasing number of municipalities throughout Kyushu are creating multilingual pamphlets to provide foreign residents with disaster prevention information. After last year's earthquakes in Kumamoto, a large number of foreign residents ended up isolated because they were unaware of the evacuation centers. This March, Fukuoka Prefecture revised its Disaster Prevention Handbook for Foreigners, which it created in 2012 in the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake. Originally available in English, Chinese, Korean and Tagalog, this revision saw the addition of two new languages: Nepali and Vietnamese. Handbooks are available at government offices and other facilities that offer services to foreign residents.

New Luxury Hotel to be Erected near Hakata Station
Kintetsu Miyako Hotels International has announced plans to build a new luxury hotel on the site of the former Hakata Miyako Hotel located just outside the Chikushi Exit of Hakata Station. The new building will span 16 floors, three underground and 13 above ground, the bulk of which will be occupied by 200 luxury hotel rooms. There will be restaurants on the top floor, a rooftop hot spring spa, and several high-end restaurants on the lower floors. The building will have a direct connection to the Fukuoka City Subway Kuko Line and is slated to open in the summer of 2019, just in time for the Rugby World Cup. The company aims to tap into inbound tourism demand while contributing to Fukuoka City's efforts to become a hub of exchange in Asia.
